Sourced exclusively from Estate-owned Knights Valley vineyards, Anakota is a collection of single vineyard, single varietal Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wines that exemplify the rustic elegance and spirit of Sonoma County’s Mount St. Helena. Situated in the flanks and foothills of Mount St. Helena, both mountainvineyards are brought to life as stressed vines struggle with rocky soils and challenging climatic conditions to create small, intensely flavored berries. “One of the finest Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted.” – Robert Parker, Jr.  The Wine Advocate

Helena Montana Vineyard Knights Valley 2003
Tucked away in the foothills of Mount St. Helena’s highest peak, Helena Montana sources exclusively Cabernet Sauvignon. Located 950' above sea level, Helena Montana lives up to the origin of its name – Mountain. The diverse topography of this 60.3-acre vineyard is best defined as rolling hills and steep benches boasting slopes of up to 30°. Almost auburn in color, Helena Montana’s soils are firm to the touch. This solid composition is compacted sandy, gravelly soil, giving the appearance of solid rock. This rigid surface inhibits the root’s ability to penetrate deep into the Earth. As a result, the vines are smaller in size and more stressed than those found on Helena Dakota. From these smaller, stressed vines grow concentrated berries that are dark in color and powerful in flavor.
92 Points - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, 12/05

Helena Dakota Vineyard Knights Valley 2003
Located above Knights Valley, and like neighboring Helena Montana vineyard, Helena Dakota vineyard is devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Helena Dakota stands 750’ high in between Mount St. Helena’s two grandest peaks. This 12.4-acre mountain vineyard possesses slopes up to 15°. Shade from the high tree line that defines the vineyard’s north side protects the vines and contributes to a moderate micro-climate absent of extreme heat or cold. The majority of the vineyard is comprised of a soft, almost white volcanic ash. The secondary soil possesses a red hue and a more gravelly consistency. Despite the variation in color and slight difference in consistency, both soils are softer than those of Helena Montana. This combination of soils results in deeper, more established root systems and, subsequently, larger sized vines. Characteristic of this soil profile, berries picked straight off the vine possess a more mineral quality and flavors of truffle and dark chocolate.
93 Points - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, 12/05

A Bordeaux blend from the Mayacamas Mountain Range, whose peaks rise above the fog like an archipelago rises from the sea. This wine is the essence of California Mountain fruit expressed with French undertones, epitomizing modern sophistication, both in its mountain structure supporting a vibrant fruit profile, as well as its contemporary image which appeals to those intrigued by unique wines and progressive thinking.

Winemaker Oliver Rousset and vineyard consultant Pierre Seillan capture old world elegance in a new world wine. Resisting the trend of single American Viticultural Appellation (AVA) bottling, each vintage is a blend of appellations. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc fruit are carefully selected from a collection of Estate-owned vineyards. Production is controlled from the first bud-break to the final harvest to ensure maximum quality.

Composition

12-14 months in French and American oak barrels

90 Points - The 2002 Archipel is fashioned from 100% estate fruit grown in both Napa and Sonoma counties. A blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 18% Cabernet Franc, it is a fruit-forward, elegant offering (a small amount of American oak is used in its upbringing) revealing pretty, chocolate, smoky, black cherry, currant, and plum
characteristics. Heady and succulent, it is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years.” –

Oliver Rousset, Winemaker
Born in Paris, France, Olivier was introduced to winegrowing and winemaking at a young age through visits to the family winery in the Bordeaux region of France. Upon completing his primary schooling, Olivier joined his cousin to grow and produce Bordeaux varietal wines in Libourne. In 1995, Olivier and his family purchased Château La Roche Beaulieu, a winery in Côtes de Castillon, focused on the production of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec.

Located on Sonoma Highway in the historic Valley of the Moon, this winery is noted for its production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Viognier, Syrah, and late-harvest Riesling. Winemaster Richard Arrowood's philosophy is to work with what nature offers, with minimal intervention, to achieve maximum flavor, complexity and dimension from a wine. Arrowood makes wine only from grapes grown in Sonoma County. Just outside the town of Glen Ellen, overlooking the Sonoma Valley, Arrowood Winery is the real life dream of Richard and his wife and partner, Alis Demers Arrowood. Completed in 1987, the winery is modeled after a New England farmhouse. With its winemaking facilities hidden from view, the building sits in perfect harmony with the surrounding countryside.

Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
This wine makes an outstanding first impression, with its vibrant ruby color and
distinctive aromas. Forward blackberry flavors stand out against an Earthy backdrop of saddle leather, cigar box, and cedar. 93 Points – Wine Enthusiast

Arrowood Merlot 2004
At Arrowood Vineyards, we enjoy Merlot for a variety of reasons. First, we have been lucky enough to source fruit from some of Sonoma County’s best vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Alexander Valley viticultural areas. Second, it’s a great way to elevate the complexity and intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon towards a softer, more approachable wine. And last, on its own, it produces a very supple and “juicy” claret that is lovely in its youth, and is also able to age well. 90 Points – “Burst With Cherry….Layered….Richness….” – Wine Spectator

Arrowood Saralee’s Vineyard Syrah 2002
We consider our Saralee's Vineyard Syrah the "Grande Dame" of our Syrah portfolio. Not only is it the first Syrah Arrowood produced, but it also comes from one of Sonoma County's "Grande Dame" vineyards. Saralee's Vineyard, located in the cool-climate Russian River Valley, has a reputation for producing some of California's finest fruit and with the 2002 Saralee's Vineyard Syrah it's easy to see why. In fact, Robert Parker, Jr., calls this one of the greatest Syrahs that Arrowood has ever produced.

93-96 Points – “The 2002 Syrah Saralee’s Vineyard, which includes 3% Viognier in the blend, is one of the greatest Syrahs Arrowood has produced. Dick Arrowood has always been ahead of the educational curve with northern California Syrah, and this is a fabulous effort. Inky/purple-colored, with a glorious perfume of lilacs intermixed with blackberries, melted asphalt, and notions of bacon, smoke, and toast, this rich, opulent, voluptuously-textured Syrah exhibits great ripeness, purity, and richness as well as a layered, multidimensional finish. It should last and evolve for a decade.” – Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

Arrowood Sonoma Chardonnay 2004
We believe that our finest wines are those that best reflect their terroir, or the vineyards in which they were grown. The grapes for our 2004 Sonoma County Chardonnay come from the cool growing regions of Russian River Valley and
Sonoma-Los Carneros. These areas yield fruit that is full of vibrant tropical and citrus fruits, and in turn, a rich, complex, and perfectly balanced wine.

Richard L. Arrowood, Winemaster
Born in San Francisco and raised in Santa Rosa, California, Richard Arrowood started his winemaking career in 1965 at Korbel Champagne Cellars, after earning a degree in organic chemistry at California State University, Sacramento and completing graduate work in enology at California State University, Fresno. From Korbel he moved on, first to United Vintners, then Sonoma Vineyards, and in 1974 was chosen by the founders of Château St. Jean Winery to become their first employee as Winemaster and, eventually, executive vice president. Château St. Jean wines quickly received critical acclaim and Richard gained a worldwide reputation for producing superb wines. In April 1990, after 16-years with Château St. Jean, Richard once again moved on - to devote himself full-time to Arrowood Vineyards and Winery. It is here that Richard has been able to achieve his goal of producing wines of singular, exceptional quality -
without compromise. His original plan was to produce reserve quality Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon only; however, Richard's drive and passion for making wine left him unable to resist working with unusual varietals and what he considers to be exceptional fruit. The Arrowood portfolio has expanded to include limited quantities of Merlot, Viognier, Pinot Blanc, Late Harvest wines, Malbec, Syrah, and a few special reserve wines.

The soul of the Atalon story is a ghost winery dating back to 1888. Built by General W.S. Keyes, the white-stone building atop Howell Mountain claims a stake in Napa Valley viticultural lore. At the turn of the twentieth century, General Keyes was producing wines considered to be among the best in Napa County from this old landmark. From the 1970s the Cabernet Sauvignon vines surrounding the winery helped to establish the reputation of several boutique Napa wineries, including Liparita, Duckhorn, and La Jota.

Atalon Merlot 2002
The 2002 is deep purple in color with intense aromas and flavors of cherry, pomegranate, ripe plums, and blackberry. Herbal notes such as fresh basil, dried lavender, olives, and white pepper sit in the background adding depth and complexity. The tannins are firm yet smooth adding to a pleasant, lingering finish.
89 Points - “A sweet perfume of plums, cherries, mocha, and herbs jump from the glass of this opulent, medium-bodied, smooth Merlot. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. It is hard to find good, classic Merlot from California selling at a realistic price, but Atalon delivers the goods.” - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

Atalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
Pure, classic, and affordable Napa Cab!! Each bottle is like a tour of Napa’s finest growing regions: fruit is blended from Keyes vineyard on Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, Atlas Peak as well as Andy Beckstoffer’s famous Oakville property.
90 Points – “Exhibits a similar fruit-forward personality, along with notes of melted licorice, black currants, tobacco
leaves, and sweet oak in a lush, medium-bodied style with no hard edges. There are 4,400 cases of this 2002, which should enjoy broad crowd appeal." - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

Byron Vineyard & Winery was founded in 1984 by winemaker Ken Brown. With years of experience as a winemaker in Santa Barbara County, Ken recognized the region's potential for great wines in the Burgundian style, and was the first winemaker to introduce Rhone-style grape varieties to the area. The first crush at Byron Vineyard & Winery produced 7,600 cases, and Byron soon gained national recognition for high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

On the Cutting Edge
Leading the way in the area of vine management experimentation, Byron's unorthodox vineyard program is one of the most ambitious of its kind, utilizing nearly 100-acres of prime vineyard land. Over two-dozen clonal selections of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from France, Oregon, and California as well as several dozen rootstocks have been used in the innovative program. In the European-style, high-density format, vines are forced to compete with each other for sustenance, resulting in lower yields, smaller berries, and remarkably higher fruit quality. A myriad of different configurations, varying the distance between rows and distance between vines in-row has been implemented in the experimental vineyard. The planting density ranges from approximately 1,500 to 4,300 vines per acre, or three to nine times the California standard of 500 vines per acre. In addition, the vineyard rows have been changed from an east-west
orientation to a north-south orientation to allow for better sunlight exposure on both sides of the canopy. A minimum of seven to ten years is needed to fully evaluate the results of the experiments in the vineyard. Early results are promising.

Santa Maria Valley is formed by an uncommon east-west break in California's coastal range, with unusual direct exposure to the ocean. The California current flows from Alaska until being diverted out to sea at Point Conception, making Santa Maria the southernmost coldwater coast in California. This cooling influence is reinforced by deep, cold ocean waters rising to the surface, a localized phenomenon caused by the unusualconfiguration of the land, the direction of wind, and the ocean currents.

Jonathan Nagy, Winemaker
In March 2001, Jonathan Nagy joined Byron Vineyard & Winery as assistant winemaker, where he trained with winery founder Ken Brown and was promoted by Ken to his current role in the spring of 2003. According to Ken, "Jonathan has a great wine knowledge and savvy instincts. At only 31 years of age, he has one of the best palates I've ever tasted with and I am confident that he will continue to produce world-class wines."

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Byron Nielson Chardonnay
This wine displays vivid aromas of mandarin orange, lime zest, and orange blossom accented by hints of clove and brown sugar. The flavor profile is very creamy and rich with hints of fig, citrus, mineral, and a touch of oak. A luxurious mid-palate gives way to a lingering finish. The finesse, breed, and balance of this wine ensure graceful aging and exceptional development of flavor and complexity.

Byron Santa Maria Chardonnay 2004
Fruit for this Chardonnay was entirely estate-grown in the cool microclimate of Santa Maria Valley. Approximately 93% of the grapes were harvested from the historic Nielson Vineyard, Santa Barbara County’s oldest commercial vineyard planted in 1964. Chardonnay from the Nielson Vineyard is noted for its complex structure, firm natural acidity and pleasing apple and citrus tones. The remaining grapes were from the Sierra Madre Vineyard planted in 1974. Grapes from Sierra Madre, one of Santa Maria Valley’s most highly regarded vineyards, contribute richness and opulence to the wine with pear and spice components.

Cambria is a private, family-owned estate winery. Its proximity to the ocean and east-west orientation gives this 1,405-acre property the diversity it needs to grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah under perfectly suited conditions. As an estate property, Cambria's Vineyard Manager and Winemaker work in tandem to perfect the winegrowing process. Together, they select only the finest grapes from the estate to bear the Cambria name. Every grape is hand-harvested and crafted into wine with the utmost care and respect for the varietal.

In 1986, the magnificent beauty and stunning fruit quality of the Santa Maria Bench, known then as Tepusquet Vineyard, captivated the Jackson family, who were looking to extend their winemaking roots to Santa Barbara County. In 1987 they purchased the premium acreage of the original Tepusquet Vineyard and renamed it Cambria, the Roman word for Wales, in honor of their family heritage.

Cambria “Katherine’s Vineyard” Chardonnay 2005
The Santa Maria Valley has the ideal climate and vineyard conditions for growing perfectly ripe Chardonnay. Formed from alluvial deposits of the Sisquoc River, Cambria's soil is gravelly and exceptionally well draining — restricting vine vigor to promote the growth of Chardonnay with lush, concentrated flavors.

Cambria “Julia’s Vineyard” Pinot Noir 2005
Julia’s Vineyard is located on the cooler, western end of the Cambria Estate. Named after the owner’s youngest daughter, all fruit from Julia’s Vineyard is estate grown and reflects the quality of Pinot Noir from the Santa Maria Bench in Northern Santa Barbara County. The maritime influences that funnel in from the Pacific Ocean help to maintain mild temperatures and extend the vineyard’s growing season which fosters the development of fruit with well-balanced acids and optimal varietal characteristics. Several clones of Pinot Noir are grown including Pommard Clone 4, Swiss Clones 2A, 23, and Dijon Clones 115, 667, and 777. Each clone adds another dimension to Julia’s: the Pommard clone adds deep plum fruit, Swiss Clones add floral components and structure while bright, red fruit characters come from the Dijon clones.

Cambria “Bench Break” Chardonnay 2005
The fruit from the low-yielding Bench Break Vineyard is handharvested from a small, distinct area of the family-owned Cambria estate. Sitting at the highest elevation in western side of the property, this site speaks boldly of Santa Maria Valley's ideal climate and vineyard conditions. Formed from alluvial deposits, Bench Break Vineyard's soils are the shallowest on the estate restricting vine vigor to promote the growth of fruit with concentrated flavors.

Cambria “Bench Break” Pinot Noir 2005
The maritime influences that funnel in from the Pacific Ocean, cloak the Santa Maria Valley in mild temperatures, extending the vineyard’s growing season to provide ample time to balance the fruit’s acid profile and develop optimal flavors. Planted to Clone 2A and Clone 23, Bench Break Vineyard is a unique expression of Pinot Noir from our
property. Clone 2A, with its small berries packed with intense fruit flavors, has a history of performing extremely well in this area. Clone 23 adds spice and saturated color to this intense Pinot Noir. "Cherries, strawberry jam, violets, vanilla and cedar in the nose. Strawberries, cranberries, cola, minerals, cinnamon, and toasty oak flavors. Silky texture in the mid-palate; finish is smooth and lingering." - Denise Shurtleff, Winemaker

Cambria “Tepusquet” Syrah 2005
Syrah is hand-harvested from the eastern-most, warmest region of the Cambria estate known as the Tepusquet Vineyard. The microclimate, in which this vineyard sits, provides ideal conditions for the development of rich and spicy Syrah. The eastern proximity provides higher annual mean temperatures necessary to develop mature flavors. A deliciously rich and complex bottling.

Cambria “Tepusquet” Viognier 2006
The current Cambria Tepusquet Vineyard is located at the easternmost portion of the estate on a downward slope which shelters the vines from Santa Maria’s infamously strong winds. The soil, once a prehistoric river bed, is sandy, porous, and exceptionally well-draining -- resulting in fruit with dense, concentrated flavors. Seventeen miles to the west, the Pacific Ocean fosters a cool marine layer which encourages the fruit to develop optimal acid balance and distinct varietal characteristics.

Cardinale creates a single wine from each vintage. The wine is a limited production Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend made from distinct and diverse mountain and bench vineyards situated in the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges surrounding the Napa Valley. Made from select lots of low-yielding vines, Cardinale is in essence, many wines
merged into one. The flavor characteristics establish distinctive "footprints" of individual flavor components that lend complexity to the blend. In the bottle, Cardinale is classic, elegant, and refined.

95 Points - “Deep ruby/purple to the rim, with notes of graphite, black cherry and black currant liqueur, licorise, and spcie box, the wine has silky tannins, full body, a gorgeouslylayered, rich mouthfeel, and a long finish with moderately high tannins and refreshing acifity. It’s a big wine for sure, but it has uncanny elegance, purity, and length.” - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, December 2007

Ultimately, the distinguishing characteristics of any exceptional wine are derived from the terroir of its vineyard sources. The wines of Carmel Road come from a remarkable group of vineyards that lie within one of the coolest growing regions in all of California-the Salinas Valley of Monterey County.

Rincon
Eden East Vineyard, also known as Rincon, is the most northerly ranch supplying fruit to Carmel Road. Situated below west-facing foothills at the entrance to Chualar Canyon, this sloping vineyard's soil features iron-rich, decomposed granite and clay-loam topsoil derived from the gradual decay of the majestic Gabilan peaks. This range, incidentally, was formed directly over the San Andreas Fault line, the result of highly active tectonic plate movement below. Vines at this location, while often the earliest to bud out, generally encounter cooler temperatures as the season progresses due to daily morning fog rolling in from the cold Monterey Bay. Planted between 1993 and 1996, primarily to UC Davis clone 4 Chardonnay, this vertically trellised and shoot-positioned vineyard yields fruit with fresh apple flavor and crisp acidity.

Hacienda
The Hacienda Ranch is located at the base of the Gabilan Range, on the eastern floor of the windswept Salinas Valley. Gradual erosion and decomposition of these formidable mountains has deposited a coarse, deep granite soil to nourish this vineyard. The compacting qualities of this dense, granular soil restrict water permeability to the lower reaches of the vine’s rooting system, keeping rampant shoot growth in check and imparting lush, tropical fruit flavors to the Chardonnay from this site. The northeast by southwest row direction of the Hacienda planting creates ideal sun dispersal to all areas of the canopy, further enhancing the fruit-forward flavors derived here. Planted between 1993 and 1997, this ranch's best fruit is harvested from a block planted with a proprietary field-selected clone isolated specifically for its pineapple/fruit cocktail complexity.

Clark
Our Clark Ranch is located in the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County, within the rain shadow of the Santa Lucia range that separates the Big Sur Coast from the Salinas Valley. This unique locale, near the mouth of the Arroyo Seco Canyon, is relatively warmer than most winegrowing areas in the valley, and is preferred terrain for Chardonnay. Here, ancient mudslides from the mountains created long, alluvial fans, depositing sand and gravel loam topsoil over rich cobblestone substratum, the remains of historic river flows through the valley floodplain. This unusual, pebbly subsoil creates ideal drainage, as well as a superb vine-rooting habitat, and contributes to the distinct mineral quality found in wines produced in this terroir.

Chardonnay grown here trends toward delicacy and finesse, with rich texture and pear and lemon-drop flavors. Most of the vines in Clark Ranch were established between 1993 and 1996, with a diverse array of clonal plantings, including Dijon selections 76 and 96, and the shy-bearing Rued clone. Generally small vine size contributes to excellent fruit exposure on this ranch, allowing for maximum fruit flavor development.

The grapes for this Arroyo Seco Pinot are sourced from two estate vineyards in that cool-climate AVA. Winemaker Ivan Giotenov ages the wine for 14 months in French oak, 41% of it new. “The wine is on the opulent side, but it's not over the top, displaying ripe, spicy flavors of raspberry and cherry and a firm core of acidity. It has a lovely, supple texture. The wine still shows some obvious oak at this stage, so it would probably benefit from another year or two in the bottle.” – Ivan Giotenov, Winemaker

The Name and Symbol
Clos LaChance takes its name from the small fenced-in area encompassing a vineyard (Clos) and from co-owner Brenda Murphy’s maiden name. The hummingbird was chosen as the winery’s symbol for both its aesthetic beauty and its ability to keep other birds away from the grapes.

History
In 1987, co-owners Bill and Brenda Murphy decided to plant some Chardonnay in their Saratoga backyard. The wine was good enough that people wanted to buy it. It was at this point that Clos LaChance formed into a company. The first commercially released wines were from the 1992 vintage. Vineyards and Winery Locations Santa Cruz Mountains - in addition to being one of the most beautiful places in California, the Santa Cruz Mountains also grows some of the state’s finest grapes. The rugged topography of the region limits the size of individual vineyards. In addition, the costs associated with planting mountain vineyards limits the overall acreage devoted to grapes in this cool, coastal appellation.

San Martin
Also in 1996, the Murphy's began to search for a permanent "home" for their growing wine business. They were introduced to the developers of a new resort called CordeValle, which is located in San Martin, CA (about 20 miles south of San Jose, 80 miles south of San Francisco). As part of the permitting for the CordeValle resort and golf course, a certain amount of land was required to be vineyards. Clos LaChance supervised the installation of the vineyard and started building a 60,000 case per year production facility and hospitality center on the sixth hole of the golf course. The production facility was completed in August 2001 and the hospitality center (tasting room and banquet facilities) opened to the public in May 2002.

Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Clos LaChance takes its name from the small fenced-in area encompassing a vineyard (Clos), and from co-owner Brenda Murphy’s maiden name. The hummingbird was chosen as the winery’s symbol for both its aesthetic beauty and its ability to keep other birds away from the grapes. The blend is 80% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon, 25% barrel fermentation, 75% stainless steel fermentation, and 33% new French oak.

Winemaker Stephen Tebb’s tasting notes describe a wine that starts out with beautiful aromas of dried flowers, ripe melon, kiwi, lime and a touch of dried grass. “Upon the entry of the wine into my mouth, crisp citrus is my first impression-grapefruit, lemon and lime-aide flavors as well as sweet lemon drops.”

An extremely succulent entry with rich lemon-lime citrus and green melon. The finish is also exciting, with firm acidity and soft green apple flavors.” – Stephen Tebb, Winemaker

Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2005
The grapes, once harvested, went directly to the press whole cluster. The juice was then transferred to barrels where fermentation was initiated. The wines were fermented and sur lie aged in barrel for 10 months. 20% of the barrels were new French oak and 30% once filled French oak. The balance was used/neutral barrels. Past primary fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. 3,484 cases produced “Aromas of sweet, scented pear and ripe Granny smith apples. There are hints of tropical fruit with a touch of baking spices-hazelnut, and graham crackers. The finish is smooth with traces of nutmeg and vanilla.” – Stephen Tebb, Winemaker

1963 - the first row of vines were barely in the ground when the neighbors began lining up to lean on their shovels and scoff. Grapes in Anderson Valley? Nobody could make it work, they insisted. The naysayer’s grew so vocal that Dr. Donald Edmeades dragged some old redwood planks out from behind the barn, found some red paint, and christened his vineyard with a sign out on Highway 128: "Edmeades' Folly." "When we first planted up there, people said we were nuts," said Deron Edmeades, son of the Pasadena cardiologist who founded the winery and vineyards. Nearly four decades later, nobody is laughing at Anderson Valley wines.

Van Williamson, Winemaker
Every bottle of Edmeades bears the unmistakable artisan signature of Winemaker Van Williamson. His mix of technical craftsmanship and native inspiration puts Edmeades out in front among the wines born in the coastal ridges of Mendocino County. He avoids sulfur dioxide, and often bottles his wines unfiltered. He ferments his Zinfandel in small lots and punches the cap down by hand. Van's mission is simple: "I want to make wines that are pleasing to people who have no experience with wine, as well as to the connoisseur," he said. His inclusive approach recalls his own roots in Cottonwood, a rural California town near Redding. "I grew up in a non-wine cow town where rodeo day is the biggest day of the year," he said. Like many of his friends, he enrolled at Chico State University nearby. Also like his friends, beer was his beverage of choice. But when a Chico wine merchant introduced him to a Pommard Burgundy, he discovered his love for wine and his gift for tasting. Soon his engineering major gave way to enology. He packed his bags for Fresno, where he earned a degree in 1984 at California State University. On breaks, he worked crush for Ficklin Vineyards and Fetzer Vineyards. His first job after graduation was with Château Montelena as cellar foreman and bottling line supervisor. It was in Mendocino that he found his first job as winemaker in 1988 at Greenwood Ridge Vineyards.

Edmeades Mendocino Zinfandel 2006
Aromas of black cherries, spice, violets and cola berry are the most prominent; but raspberries, salted apples, coffee and cedar chest are also layered into the profile. Flavors are full, soft and supple, with good intensity of fruit flavors. The berry and cherry flavors linger on the palate until you taste it again; the tartness of the finish goes from cherries, to
stone fruit, to minerality.
90 Points – “This is a beautiful 2006 Zinfandel that sells for a song. This has got to be one of the better values, and of course, 2006 looks to be a vastly superior vintage to 2005 for Zinfandel. This wine, which has some Petite Sirah, Merlot, Syrah, and Grenache blended in, exhibits deep ruby color and a big, sweet nose of peppery black cherry and raspberry liqueur intermixed with spring flowers and Earth. The wine is medium to full-bodied, ripe, and altogether a hedonistic mouthful of big Zinfandel. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.” – Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

Edmeades Ciapusci Vineyard Zinfandel 2004
Planted in 1878 by an Italian immigrant on top of Mendocino Ridge, 1,800’ above the Pacific Ocean, this is the oldest vineyard in Mendocino County at 128-years old. Old vines in the truest sense, the small berry clusters yield only one ton per acre of intense fruit. “Dried cranberries, cherries, pepper, boysenberries, brandied soaked pears and peaches all dance through the aromas ensemble, with no leading character. This wine is a Zinfandel built to last.” - Van Williamson, Winemaker “Zinfandel of the year” – Wine News

Edmeades Perli Vineyard Zinfandel 2005
If the “Hand Tended” block of the Perli Vineyard were located at a ski resort, it would be considered double black diamond. With grades approaching 60% and soils that are more rock than soil, this steep site is one of the most radical in all of California. First planted in the late 1800s by Santo and Rosie Perli, this southwest-facing, high altitude
(1,500’) vineyard is a mere 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Featuring a mix of old heritage clones, the 2004 Perli Zinfandel is deep, extreme, meaty and compelling.

Edmeades Zeni Vineyard Zinfandel 2004*
90 POINTS - “My only reservation here is with the 2001 Zinfandel Zeni Vineyard. With 17.1% alcohol, it walks a dangerous line. The wine is tremendously heady (one glass will provide an instant buzz), with a gorgeous bouquet of raspberry liqueur, cherries, incense, spice box, and other wondrous scents. Slightly sweet, perhaps because the glycerin is so high given the alcoholic power, this intriguing, fascinating effort should be shared among ... many friends.” Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

Edmeades Piffero Vineyard Zinfandel 2004
Edmeades is pure Mendocino and Piffero is a 63-year old, single vineyard located in the Redwood Valley. “Piffero always delivers intensely perfumed black cherry fruit. The bright aromas and dark exotic fruit flavors combine with vanilla bean character from the new French oak, adding sweetness to the fruit.” - Van Williamson, Winemaker “Top ten zinfandels of the year.” – Wine News

Edmeades Late Harvest Zinfandel 2003
Since its first release in 1999, Alden Ranch Zinfandel has gained notoriety as a whale of a Zin. With more resemblance to port, the 2003 vintage stays true to its bloodline. Bright raspberry combines with toasted oak forming the core of the aromatics. Hints of peaches and nectarines add to the intensity of fruitiness.

One of the oldest wineries in Napa Valley, and one of the most historically significant wine growing properties in the United States, Freemark Abbey has a tradition of excellence that’s now in the hands of talented young wine maker and gourmet chef, Ted Edwards. Ted holds both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the prestigious Department of Viticulture and Enology at the University of California, Davis. Continuing the classic Freemark style, Edwards uses innovative techniques to enhance the fruitiness, flavors, and varietal character of the wines.

Freemark Abbey is particularly acclaimed for its superb Cabernet Sauvignon - a Napa Valley premium Cabernet and two vineyard-designated wines. Bosche and Sycamore Cabernets are single-vineyard wines from the famous Rutherford area, known for producing grapes of excellent color and flavor. Their distinctive quality reflects this special region and the unique characteristics of the soil.

Women in Wine History
The history of Freemark Abbey began in 1886, when Josephine Marlin Tychson became the first woman to build and operate a winery in California. The historic site where Josephine's winery, Tychson Cellars, once stood is now known as Freemark Abbey. Josephine, a native of San Lorenzo, California and her husband, John Tychson, a Danish immigrant, moved to St. Helena in 1881. They hoped that the Napa Valley's climate would help John, who suffered from tuberculosis. In addition, the couple decided to pursue their dream of making wine from their own vineyards. For $8,500, they purchased 147-acres north of St. Helena, which later became known as "Tychson Hill." The first vineyards on the Tychson land were most likely planted in 1875, five or six years before the couple acquired the property. With only a horse and plow, the Tychsons began to expand these vineyards, adding approximately 10-acres of vines each year. Despite his failing health, John Tychson began to develop plans for a winery on the property. Unfortunately, he never lived to see his plans take shape. Shortly after her husband's untimely death, Josephine realized his dream.
In 1886, she began construction of a 50 square foot redwood winery which would grow to hold a capacity of about 30,000 gallons.

Ted Edwards, Winemaker
"I'm a cook! Winemaking is a lot like cooking; a chef will want to grow or select his produce and likewise, a winemaker will want to grow his or her own grapes; we call it winegrowing. To do my job, I need to be involved in the grape growing; there are so many grape growing decisions that will affect the flavors and quality of the wine and the bottom line is deciding when to pick. As the vine ripened tomato has the best flavor, so too will the vine ripened grapes make the best wine; we walk the vineyards frequently during harvest to make this decision. Once we hand harvest our desired fruit, we bring our produce to the "kitchen," our winery, to proceed with the making of our wines.”

Freemark Abbey “Bosche Vineyard” Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
The color of this wine is very dark ruby. The aroma has layers of depth, hinting of dark cherry, black currant, blackberry and cassis. These forward fruit components in the aroma are further complexed with a hint of juniper berry and mincemeat pie. The bouquet is reminiscent of dark chocolate, cedar, cinnamon, and clove. With flavor that is a quite
pleasant dark cherry dominance, the finish is very long and complimented by mature, smooth tannins.

Freemark Abbey “Sycamore Vineyard” Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
Opaque with dark ruby hues; deep and brooding with lots of depth in the nose. A host of inviting blackberries, boysenberries, black currant, dark cherries, with cinnamon, clove, dark chocolate, and a hint of lavender. Entry is smooth, full of dark cherry flavors reminiscent of a dark chocolate/cherry truffle, yet not sweet but with a wonderful, inviting, pleasant balance…a finish that draws you back for another glass! Seductively balanced with good structure and moderate tannins.

Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
Ruby color, with an inviting nose of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, and mushrooms, plus spicy hints of Anaheim chili. Distinctive cherry plum and coffee flavors mingle, giving a pleasant acid balance with medium tannins, and a crisp satisfying finish.

Freemark Abbey Merlot 2004
A pure, terroir-driven style. Classic Napa Merlot. “The 2004 Freemark Abbey Merlot is a deep, dark ruby color. The aromas are forward with rich black cherry and hints of berry, plum and dark chocolate. There is a touch of oak and bay laurel, with cinnamon/nutmeg spiciness. This wine is full-flavored with great depth and very modest tannins.” – Wine.com

Freemark Abbey Chardonnay 2004
Pale gold; bursting with lemon, lime, apple, mandarin, banana, bread dough, and slight butterscotch aromas. Crisp flavors of lemons and apples, plus tropical hints of nectarine, mango, and pink grapefruit, lead to a pleasant finish. “A fruit-driven Chardonnay that offers good richness and intensity, with a core of lemony citrus and green pear flavors that taper off on the finish.” – Wine Spectator

The wine has restraint, but effortless concentration and richness as well as impeccable balance. It is best drunk in its next several years of life." - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, December, 2005

Hartford Court “Lands Edge Vineyards” Pinot Noir 2006
The primary source of fruit for the Land’s Edge Pinot Noir is our estate’s Annapolis Vineyard and Seascape Vineyard located along the windswept northern part of Sonoma Coastal Mountain Range. This wine shows complex aromas of ripe cherries, violets, and cedar are followed by flavors of perfectly ripe, firm black cherries, mixed red and black berries. Allspice and coffee notes complement a long, multi-faceted finish in this enticing, new Hartford Court Pinot Noir. 96 Points – “#7 Wine of the year.” – Wine Enthusiast

Hartford Court “Fog Dance Vineyards” Pinot Noir 2005
Our family farms several vineyards in green Valley, the source of Fog Dance Pinot Noir. We named this Pinot Noir to honor the “dance” performed by the Pacific fog, drifting through the vineyards and back again to the sea each day. This wine reflects its cool Green Valley terrior, showing the brightness and purity of cherry and cranberry flavors
along with an elegant and refined texture. Pure aromas of Queen Anne cherries, rose petals and cinnamon are supported by flavors of cranberries, red cherries and allspice. Velvety, fine grained tannins complement a long and sophisticated finish in this new Green Valley AVA Pinot Noir.

Wonderfully lush in the mouth with pomegranate, black cherry and spice flavors, framed by sweet, generous tannins. 94 Points - "It reveals Côte de Nuits - like Earthiness with forest floor, underbrush, Allspice, plum, pomegranate, and cherry fruit characteristics. Rich, savory, well-textured, super-complex, and totally different than the Arrendel cuvee, the Sevens Bench will drink well for 5-6 years." - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, February 2005

Hartford Court “Far Coast” Pinot Noir 2005*
Our Far Coast Vineyard is an area that some call the “True Sonoma Coast.” Others would simply describe the distant vineyard site as “the middle of nowhere.” Far Coast Vineyard sits just south of the Peay Vineyard at an elevation of about 900’ to 1,200’ feet above sea level. The soils at this mountain site are well drained and import minerality and a strength of focus to the wine. ”Outstanding” 91/100, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar

Hartford Court “Jennifer’s” Pinot Noir 2005*
Named in honor of co-proprietor Jennifer Jackson-Hartford, this wine is defined by its power, concentration of fruit and structure. A wine that is built to age, Jennifer’s proves that not all Pinot Noirs are shy, retiring, and delicate souls. Jennifer’s Pinot is sourced from vineyards in the Sebastopol Hills region of the Russian River Valley AVA – smack in the middle of the windy and very cool, Petaluma Wind Gap. The dark color and intense black fruit aroma and flavor profile are a testament to the terroir of this site. “Outstanding” 91/100, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, May

Jolene’s texture is rich and mouthfilling with supple tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Hartford “Highwire” Zinfandel 2006

HAWLEY VINEYARDS

Hawley Vineyards and Winery are located on Bradford Mountain, overlooking the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. John Hawley started the winery after 25-years of winemaking at some of California’s most influential wineries. Today he and his two sons, Paul and Austin Hawley, produce unique wines from select Sonoma County vineyards. Hawley Vineyards was certified organic in 2006 after three years of growing organically.

At Hawley Winery we combine modern practices with traditional winemaking. Our philosophy is simple: do whatever it takes to make the best wine from the best hillside vineyards.

Organic Growing
In 2006 Hawley Vineyards became certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) after three years of following organic practices. Not only do we believe in the philosophy of sustainable agriculture but are convinced that organic grapes make better wine. Crop and berry size are reduced, virtually eliminating the need for crop thinning. We feel that organic growing reveals a more authentic expression of terroir since the farmer is not providing the vines with exotic nutrients.

Hawley Ponzo Vineyard Zinfandel 2005
Ponzo Vineyard is located just outside the town limits of Healdsburg, along the Russian River at the mouth of Dry Creek. Its gravelly bench-lands have produced many award winning wines. “This Zinfandel is soft and juicy with aromas of white pepper, raspberries, strawberries and vanillin oak notes.” - John Hawley, Winemaker

Hawley Viognier 2006
Native to the slopes of France's Rhone Valley, the Viognier grape appears to be especially well suited to our California climate. Domiano Vineyard in the Sierra foothills (86%) produces fruit that is extremely floral and tropical in flavor. Hawley Vineyard in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley produces fruit with a higher natural acidity and citrus flavors. The blend of the two vineyards produces a very balanced and flavorful wine. Both hillside vineyards employ vertical trellising, leaf pulling, and crop thinning to maximize quality. “This 100% Viognier shows its typical peach and jasmine-like flavors, along with citrus and spice notes. Its complex flavors mingle honeysuckle, pineapple, peach, apricot and orange blossoms. With a wonderfully light, clean fruity aroma. The mouth feel is luscious with moderate acidity, and a
long fruity finish.” – John Hawley, Winemaker

Hawley Pinot Noir 2005
The grapes for this Hawley Pinot Noir came from two vineyards in the Russian River Valley appellation. Seventy-one percent of this Pinot Noir came from Oehlman Vineyard, located on Vine Hill. This steep South East facing slope is planted with the Martini and Pomard clones and farmed by Karl Oehlman and his family. Rousseau Vineyard, also on Vine Hill Road, is planted to Dijon clone 116 and makes up 29% of this blend. Jacques Rousseau hand farms this small vineyard. “This Pinot Noir shows complex aromas of coffee and vanilla to complement the deep cherry and raspberry flavors from the grapes. In the mouth the wine is rich and opulent, with generous ripe fruit flavors and a long, silky-smooth finish. This wine will continue to improve for many years to come.” - John Hawley, Winemaker

A Sense of Place, More Than Process
The unique combination of an ideal climate, soil, and dry farmed vineyard is the backbone of our wine. Our approach to winemaking allows the distinct terroir of our family’s Calistoga Vineyard shine through in each glass. The site is nestled in the Mount St. Helena alluvial plain, where a maritime climate producing warm days and cool nights yield grapes singular in their strength, complexity, and balance.

Lokoya produces minute quantities of appellation-specific Cabernet Sauvignon from low-vigor vineyard sites in the Napa Valley. By selecting only the finest vineyards, farming each parcel to accentuate its unique attributes, Lokoya
produces powerful and complex wines that reflect the distinct character of each appellation in which they are grown.
The Lokoya name honors the Native American tribe who lived on Mount Veeder in the western mountains of the Napa Valley prior to the arrival of viticulture in the nineteenth century. Paying tribute to those who farmed these Napa soils before us, Lokoya Cabernets reflect the soils and microclimates of the Napa Valley. “No matter whom Lokoya’s winemaker may be, this estate continues to turn out some of Napa’s most interesting Cabernet Sauvignons. Christopher Carpenter, the current winemaker for this property in Jess Jackson’s Artisans and Estates portfolio, has succeeded admirably with the 2003s, which are almost as spectacular as the 2002s. They are all indigenous yeast
fermented, 100% Cabernet Sauvignons aged 18 or more months in French oak. Production ranges from a maximum of 560 cases for the Mount Veeder, to 290 cases for the Howell Mountain.” - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

LA JOTA
HOWELL MOUNTAIN, NAPA VALLEY

La Jota Vineyard Company began in 1898, when San Francisco Newspaperman Frederick Hess built a stone winery from local volcanic rock known as Tufa. The winery became one of several located on Howell Mountain before the turn of the century. Hess named the winery after Rancho la Jota, the Spanish land grant on which it is situated.

In the late nineteenth century, grapes from the Howell Mountain region were already gaining a reputation for producing wonderful dry, red wines. The prestigious Paris Exposition of 1900 awarded medals to La Jota and to the neighboring Liparita Vineyards. Several wineries were operating on Howell Mountain and as many as 700-acres were flourishing vineyards. The devastation of phylloxera and then Prohibition put an end to winemaking at La Jota and in the Napa Valley well into the 20th century. Napa Valley’s First AVA…the Howell Mountain American Viticultural Area (AVA) area contains about 14,000 total acres. Most working vineyards are planted to Bordeaux varietals.

Situated high in the hills east St. Helena, Howell Mountain was the first recognized AVA in Napa Valley. In the 1880s the St. Helena Star recognized Howell Mountain's consistent production of great red wines by editorializing, "if any grape-growing region in California deserves to be called a well-defined district it is Howell Mountain."** Its boundaries are defined by the 1,400’ elevation contour line instead of by mountains or rivers. This is generally the top of the fog line on those mornings when fog drifts up the valley from San Pablo Bay.

The weather in this unique area is significantly different from that of the Napa Valley floor. By virtue of its elevation, Howell Mountain receives westerly Pacific breezes on most days. Daytime temperatures atop Howell Mountain are cooler and the nights warmer than those found on the valley floor. This provides an ideal climate for raising grapes - with less heat stress and longer growing days because of the warmer nighttime temperatures. This unique climate is also home to the most interior redwood forests found in California as well as many beautiful Douglas fir and Ponderosa pine trees.

The soils on the mountain are volcanic. Topsoils are either bright red or white depending on the underlying type of bedrock. The soils are generally shallow and short of nutrients, stressing the vines and producing only half of the grape crop that can be found in similar vineyards on the Napa Valley floor. It's this stress that produces the intense varietal characteristics recognized as being unique to Howell Mountain.

20th Anniversary Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
We have so much to celebrate with our 20th Anniversary Release, we took the opportunity to give our label a new look. The celebration continues in the glass - the nose is stunning, laden with raspberry jam, toasted hazelnut, and gobs of vanilla. The Howell Mountain muscle has not so much been tamed as it has been integrated, achieving a balance between power and finesse. Ripe, round, and rich in the mouth, the dense berry flavors finish with velvety smooth tannins.

After 10-years of production, this Cabernet has hit its stride and each vintage claims its own set of admirers.

On the Alexander Valley Mountain, the soil is thin, rocky, and gravelly. This helps produce fruit that is complex, rich, and concentrated. We complement this powerful fruit by using only small, thin-staved French oak barrels with which to age this wine.
The resulting wine is supple, with flavors of cedar, black currant, and dark chocolate. Look also for hints of smoky toastiness and concentrated black cherries.

The Alexander Valley - named for pioneer Cyrus Alexander, the Alexander Valley is located 75-miles north of San Francisco and flanks both banks of the Russian River as it flows southwest from Cloverdale to Healdsburg. The valley is 20-miles long and  anywhere from two to seven miles wide. It includes valley lowlands, as well as parts of the Coast Range to the west and the Mayacamas Mountains to the east.

Legacy 2003
This 2003 Legacy is the thirteenth release of our Bordeaux-style varietal blend. With this vintage, we selected five lots of wine from our estate vineyards in the eastern mountains and hills enclosing the southern end of the Alexander Valley. 88 Points - “Dark ruby color with graphite, black fruit, earth and charcoal.

This attractive, medium bodied blend will benefit from antoher 1-2 years given it’s tannic structure.” – Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

Founded in 1977, Matanzas Creek Winery is located on the site of a retired dairy farm in Sonoma County's newest American Viticultural Appellation (AVA), Bennett Valley. The Estate takes its moniker from the natural creek running through the area, which was named by Spanish settlers for the Pomo Indian deer hunts once common in the area. In 1985 the original winery, a converted dairy barn, gave way to a modern winemaking facility. The most recent addition to the winemaking facility is a new barrel chai built in 2000.

Over the past quarter-century our Estate's vineyard holdings have doubled in size. New plantings of Merlot and Syrah added in the late 1990s increase the total Estate plantings to over 80-acres. The development of the 120-acre Jackson Park Vineyard (located across Bennett Valley Road from the winery) in 1996 established Matanzas Creek Winery's leadership role in Bennett Valley winegrowing community. In 2004, 40-acres of Chardonnay (located along Bennett Valley Road in the Estates “front yard”) was replanted to ensure the quality of our Chardonnay fruit maintained the rigid standards of our winemaking team.

This is an especially exciting time in our Estate's history as Bennett Valley was formally recognized as an American Viticultural Appellation (AVA) in December 2003. The recognition of Bennett Valley as an official appellation formally acknowledges the unique climate, soil profile, topography and aspects of this prestigious wine growing region. Specifically, Bennett Valley is unique as its three mountains – Sonoma, Bennett, and Taylor – capture a direct cool air stream from the ocean. This air stream, called the Petaluma Wind Gap, promotes a cooler, longer growing season that results in intense, more complex wines.

Francois Cordesse, Winemaker
Celebrating his fifth harvest at Matanzas Creek Winery with the 2005 harvest. Francois was promoted to Winemaker in early 2005. Partnering with Vineyard Manager Brandon Axell, Francois continues the pursuit of crafting Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah from Sonoma County's grandest mountain vineyards.

Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc 2006/2007
Our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Musque, a clonal cousin of Sauvignon Blanc. 89 Points - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate

Matanzas Creek Chardonnay 2005/2006
The 2005 Chardonnay is a 23,000 case production that enjoyed 95% malolactic fermentation as well as eight-months in French oak. Smoke, lemon oil, white currant, white peach, hazelnut, and orange rind aromas jump from the glass of this 2005. It displays terrific fruit and purity, but little evidence of wood
90 Points - Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate, December 2006

Matanzas Creek Merlot 2004/2005
The Merlot fruit is sourced from the vineyards surrounding our Estate and Jackson Park, our Estate-owned mountain vineyard located 930’ above Bennett Valley. Bennett Valley fruit benefits from wide swings between daytime and evening temperatures resulting from a cool maritime breeze.

Matanzas Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Matanzas Creek Syrah 2004
"Thick and warm with the black smoke and graham cracker spice of oak, this syrah shows a little anise flavor with air.” - Patrick J. Comiskey, Wine & Spirits, October 2005

Matanzas Creek Pinot Noir 2006
On appearance, the 2006 is a vibrant cardinal red. The first nose delivers perfumed aromas of juicy red raspberry and the faint scent of cherry seeds. After a swirl, the rich scent of evening rose, black currant, and a touch of sun-warmed anise are unveiled. On the palate, this wine is complex and intense with deep red fruits and soft tannins that drift into a long, mineral finish.

Take the expertise of two innovative grape growers and a leading marketer; blend with a mutual love of the wine industry; balance with humor and spirited hard work — this is the core of Murphy-Goode Winery. Twenty-years ago, Tim Murphy, Dale Goode, and Dave Ready shared a vision: grow distinctive grapes, produce delicious wine, have fun, and make friends in the process. They founded their three-family partnership in 1985 and launched the brand with two wines: estate grown Fumé Blanc and Chardonnay. Tim, Dale, and Dave, along with their families, never looked back.
David Ready, Jr. - Winemaker

“By the time I was ten-years-old, I knew what Cabernet Sauvignon was,” remembers David Ready, Jr. He grew up appreciating wine, tutored by his father – Dave Ready, one of the founders of Murphy-Goode Winery. David learned about winemaking first-hand while working the harvest at Murphy-Goode in 1988 and 1989. He returned home to
work in a Minnetonka wine shop while attending college. In summer of 1992 David returned to California to work the crush. He broadened his wine experience by joining the harvest in Australia, early 1993. Working in McLarenvale, South Australia, David learned the “drain and return” technique, a procedure that rounds out tannins.

Sauvignon Blanc “The Fumè” 2007
This is our most vineyard driven wine. The Murphy family farm and manage the fruit to develop tropical and melon-like flavors rather than green herbaceousness often associated with the variety. A small portion is in barrel to add richness and texture and results in a crisp wine with notes of grapefruit, tropical fruit and fig.

Chardonnay Sonoma County 2006
This wine is barrel fermented in the tradition white wine Murphy-Goode combination of French and American oak barrels. A varying percentage of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation to add a slightly rounder texture while still preserving the fresh Chardonnay fruit characteristics. The apricot and pear aromas and flavors of this clean, fresh Chardonnay are highlighted with just the right hint of oak.

Reserve Chardonnay “Island Block,” Alexander Valley 2005
Island block is our estate Chardonnay vineyard located on the banks of the Russian River. Its gravelly bench-land soils in combination with the river’s cooling influence make for a distinctive style of fruit that define Island Block Estate Chardonnay. Packed with concentrated fruit flavors, this wine has intensity that results from mindful farming and creative winemaking techniques.

“Liar’s Dice” Zinfandel, Sonoma County 2005
The late Tim Murphy was the architect of our Zinfandel program and the plan was conceived over 20 years of breakfast and “liar’s dice” games at Mickey’s Café in Geyserville. Tim circle of friends at these early morning meetings are some of the finest Zin growers in Sonoma County and now are the fruit source for Liar’s Dice Zin. Dense black cherry, raspberry jam, and currant notes are brought together in layers with sweet vanilla oak.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 2005
Hillside and bench-land vineyards on the eastern slope of the Alexander Valley create a classic Cabernet Sauvignon with soft texture and rich flavors. Small lots of Merlot and Petit Verdot are blended from time to time for added complexity. Layers of sweet black fruit and spice are the distinguishing feature of our Cabernet.

Claret “Wild Card” Alexander Valley 2006
The three varietals used to produce this wine are Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot which are grown in the Alexander Valley where the flavor profile of these grapes lend a lush black-fruit backbone. Wild Card is a description for this “Bordeaux varietal blend” as the term allows us the flexibility to “play” each varietal as we choose in creating a “winning hand.”

Merlot 2006
Diverse benchland and hillside vineyards in Alexander Valley give us Merlot grapes with rich texture and ripe, intense fruit flavor, as this wine demonstrates. This luscious fruit also has excellent depth. Blending components of 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot, enhance the wine’s structure and complexity. The Merlot was aged 16-months in a combination of air-dried American and French oak, 35% new barrels.
“Here is a Merlot with power and elegance, an intense, fruit-forward wine with the structure and balance to age. Mouthwatering aromas of black cherry, fresh thyme, and sweet oak announce the wine’s dense fruit flavors. This Merlot finishes with smooth tannins and
appealing oak spice, leaving a memorable impression.” – David Ready, Jr., Winemaker

“Snake Eyes” Zinfandel Elaine Maria Vineyards 2004
“Snake Eyes” is our designation for Murphy Goode’s Reserve Zinfandel, produced each vintage from our best lots from our grower parterns. The 2004 vintage is 100% Zinfanddel from Elaine Maria Vineyards in Alexander Valley, owned by Elaine Foppiano. Only 40 barrels were selectged for this bottleing. Aged in French and American oak barrels, this is a powerful Zin with balance and structure to age. “Classic flavors of black cherry, currant and raspberry jam. The wine balances intense fruit with rich tannis and a lingering finish.” – David Ready, Jr., Winemaker

Handmade. Worldwide. Oriel is a group of the best winemakers in the world who have made wines from Château d'Yquem to Penfold's Grange. Under the Oriel banner, each winemaker creates a tiny quantity of a truly handmade wine that expresses the best of his or her local soil, fruit, climate, and culture. Oriel volumes are miniscule because making great wine is like making great food -- to make a little with the very best ingredients is possible, to make a lot is not. Over two dozen Oriel wines share a single overhead so prices can be kept low.

This is what their saying about Oriel: Oriel wines have been chosen by hundreds of America's top restaurants and retailers and have earned acclaim from Robert Parker, Jr., Food & Wine, The New York Times, Wine Spectator, Bloomberg, and many more.

The Pelton House vineyards are poised near the base of the grand Mount St. Helena in Sonoma County’s Knights Valley. The Pelton House moniker pays homage to the Pelton Wheel, an ingenious water wheel that brought power to Knights Valley in the late 1800s. The 1400-acre estate is planted to 150-acres of Cabernet and 50-acres of Merlot, sourcing just over two tons per acre, hand picked in half ton bins that were only half filled and the use of a basket press, a practice that has not been changed in 1,000-years. The property has long served as an inspirational setting for artist, writers, poets, and musicians to develop and share their craft. Today, we carry on this artistic heritage with Pelton House Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Pelton House Merlot 2004
12-year old vineyard is comprised of clay loam soils, 525’ above sea level and sources just over two tons per acre. A blend of 89% Merlot, 9% Cabernet, and 2% Malbec, this is a limited release and you’ll know why when you take
the first sip. 90 Points – Stephen Tanzar’s International Wine Cellar

PEPI
Innovative -- Pepi Winery is an innovator in the quality production of Italian varietals in California. We are well-known for crafting the quintessential California Sangiovese, stellar Sauvignon Blanc, and crisp Pinot Grigio.

Trend Setting -- Our cutting edge innovations continue with the introduction of our hip, fresh, and now screw cap bottles. Napa Valley, California -- Napa Valley's innovative and style-savvy Pepi winery is poised to become just slightly hipper than the fellows on TV's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. With a twist of an elegant new screw cap, Pepi will make one giant leap for simplicity and ease, sending the traditional corkscrew straight to the dustbin of contraption history.

The entire lineup of Pepi wines - including its popular Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sangiovese - makes a radical statement about the way premium wine is opened and presented. These are super-fresh wines under $10, made in a style that emphasizes the brightness of each variety's fruit flavor. “The Oakville winery, founded by Robert Pepi in 1966 and purchased by wine legend Jess Jackson in 1994, has a long and colorful history of producing cutting edge grape varieties, most recently focusing on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Sangiovese from the Napa Valley. Pepi struck a popular chord in 2001 when it began producing a very modern American version of Pinot Grigio from grapes grown in Oregon.” - Elaine Mellis, Artisans and Estates

Chardonnay
Winemaker Pat Pickett avoided malolactic fermentation and new barrels to limit the oak and achieve a one hundred percent Chardonnay lush with ripe fruit and unusually compatible with range of dishes. Crisp lemon and green apple flavors complement a rich mouth feel and medium body.

Pinot Grigio
Aromas of honeydew melon, red apple, and faint orange blossom unite in harmony. On the palate, a smooth creaminess and full body leads to a bracing, mineral, and tangy finish.

Sauvignon Blanc
Pleasant Sauvignon aromas of grapefruit and melon. Light bodied and elegant with crisp acidity. A very refreshing bottle of wine, perfect for sipping with lunch while enjoying the beautiful spring and summer weather. Enjoy with seafood, salads, chicken, or alone as an apéritif.

Sangiovese
Balanced, bright, and harmonious with flavors of black cherry, cocoa and spices framed by dusty tannins. Aged for more than six-months in French and American oak puncheons (93 gallon barrels) to reduce the wine to oak ratio and preserve the delicate, spicy fruit. In Chianti-like fashion, its bone dry, light, and elegantly structured. The fruit’s delicate spicy flavors complement the aromas of cherry pie and nutmeg — just right for serving with duck, pasta marinara, and especially, hard Italian cheeses.

150-years ago, Captain John Ray planted grapes in the Alexander Valley. His ranch, Ray's Station, was a popular rest stop for stagecoach travelers. Today, the wines of Ray's Station pay tribute to that pioneer spirit. Gutsy, food-friendly Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot from the Alexander Valley.

Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast 2006

When we try to describe this wine, we come up with words like lush, rich, dense, and concentrated. We decided to add some Syrah, Merlot, and just a small amount of Cabernet Franc to this wine to bring about spicy aromatics and plump up the mid-palate. We also aged the wine in small oak barrels, which encouraged cedar and vanilla fragrances to develop. Sourced from 23% Napa Valley and 77% Alexander Mountain Estate, Ray’s Station Cabernet is made from 100% Hillside grown fruit. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.5% Syrah, 4.5% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc.

Merlot North Coast 2004

Dense, rich, and full bodied. This wine is a blend of 92% Merlot, 5% Cabernet
Sauvignon, and 4% Syrah, and 1% Cabernet Franc. This blend adds backbone and
plumps up the mid-palate. The wine was also aged 10-months in 97% French oak. You’ll find layers of plums, black cherries, and other stone fruits, set off by tannins more enticing than what you’d normally expect in Merlot.

J. Stonestreet & Sons Vineyard & Winery began in the autumn of 1989 when Jess Jackson purchased a small vineyard and winery in the rolling hills bordering southern Alexander Valley. He named the winery in honor of his late father, Jess Stonestreet Jackson, and dedicated it to the task of handcrafting wines using traditional methods while showcasing modern techniques. Stonestreet quickly garnered international acclaim for powerful red and luscious white wines. Following this early success, Jess Jackson acquired the nearby Alexander Mountain Estate in 1995 and
focused Stonestreet on mountain wines, particularly the Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, in addition to small amounts of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from older vineyards on the mountain.

Christopher’s Vineyard, one of the highest in California at 2,400’ above sea level. A new Stonestreet winery was completed in time for the 2000 harvest and sited near Alexander Mountain Estate. The winery was designed to accommodate the many small tanks necessary to separate small lots of mountain fruit. Ample room was also made for easier barrel aging with gentle racking and stirring of lees.

Today, after careful investment, precision farming and adapted winemaking techniques, Stonestreet wines are setting new, higher standards for Alexander Valley. Our family is dedicated to fulfilling the promise of Alexander Mountain Estate’s exceptional and distinctive vineyards. Highlighting our efforts, we present small select quantities of single-vineyard wines such as Christopher’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Upper Barn Chardonnay, and Upper Barn Sauvignon Blanc, all from our Alexander Mountain Estate.

Graham Weerts, Winemaker

Big but harmonious tannins and gentle acidity support explosively sweet, concentrated dark berry and floral pastille flavors, which utterly fill the mouth. This
very rich, velvety wine boasts an impressive display of ripe berry flavors on the long, sappy finish."- Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Stonestreet Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
A warm spring pushed an early-March bud break that showed promising uniformity. With no rain to effect, shatter or uneven grape development, the bloom and set during April were flawless. Moderate temperatures and extended
hang time, prevailed throughout the season. Harvest began mid-August with low yields, dry weather and beautifully even ripeness - a stunning vintage. "... balanced and layered with blackberry and red cherry fruit flavors... notes of spice, coffee, cedar and mocha... firm, refined tannins..." - Graham Weerts, Winemaker

This wine doesn’t fit into a traditional winemaking category; it’s different than any other wine you’ve tasted. The winemaker chose to use the saignée process of juice extracting for the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the gentlest way of crushing open the skins of the grape to extract the precious juice inside. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were cold fermented in stainless steel to maintain bright, crisp flavors while the Syrah was barrel fermented to deepen the color and intensify the flavors of the wine. Tiz one of a kind…Tiz Red.

2004 Red Wine
Tiz Red is a fusion of several classic varietals including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The complexity and balance of rich aromas and voluptuous taste ignite all the senses. Each sip invites another. Luscious fruity flavors of summer berries, jammy black fruit, and a hint of pepper. The tannins are delicate and velvety with a hint of spice on the finish.

If Sonoma has a “first growth” winery, it’s Vérité. Simply put, but profound in its intent, Vérité is dedicated to producing red wines of style and substance along a traditional model, using the finest fruit from mountain vineyards throughout Sonoma County. If anything, these wines are solid proof that Sonoma County is undeniably capable of producing wines that rival or equal the world’s best. The winery selects Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from a handful of outstanding mountain sites, or micro-crus, in Sonoma County. Estate vineyard sources include Alexander Mountain Estate (Alexander Valley), Jackson Park (Bennett Valley), Kellogg (Knights Valley), and other pristine sites along the
Mayacamas Mountain Range. Since the first vintage in 1998, The wines of Vérité have been among the most sought after and highly regarded wines made in California. They represent the some of the greatest new world wines ever made
in a traditional old-world style.

Pierre Seillan, Winemaker
Pierre's commitment to growing and crafting fine wine began in Armagnac working with Cabernet Franc and Merlot at his family estate. Pierre's experience extended to Château de Targé in the Saumur-Champigny AOC of the Loire Valley where he also made wine from the fickle Cabernet Franc variety. Pierre then focused on Bordeaux where he spent two decades as Technical Director and Winemaker for seven châteaux in Lalande de Pomerol, Saint-Émilion, St. Estèphe, Haut-Médoc, Premières Côtes de Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur. Pierre arrived in California in 1997 as vigneron of Vérité. "…I had a chance to come back to California after studying here many years ago…I am very excited by the opportunities and potential of mountain terroirs here, especially in Sonoma…"
